A CRICKET bat owned by one of the greatest players in history is being auctioned for charity.
Moor Park Golf Club is inviting sports fans to bid for the bat, which is signed by Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, the leading run-scorer and century maker in Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket.
The 37-year-old, who is the only player to score a double century in the history of ODI cricket, donated his bat to the club to help raise funds for Michael Sobell House, based at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood.
Club captain, Ernest Cochrane (pictured with Mr Tendulkar) said: "The incoming captain of Moor Park Golf Club traditionally nominates a worthy charity and helps to raise as much money for it as possible.
"I decided to choose Michael Sobell House, as it is just a few hundred yards away from the golf club, plus I have had a few good friends who have been looked after there towards the end of their days.
"I was introduced to Sachin last month at a barbecue hosted in the Moor Park Estate, by a mutual friend at the golf club.
"I told him about our fundraising efforts and he offered to give me one of his cricket bats, which he had autographed, for us to auction.
"Sachin is a huge star - the Indian equivalent of David Beckham and a real hero.
